Cells
The Cell (from Latin cella, meaning "small room") is the basic structural, functional and biological unit of all known living organisms. Cells are the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently and are often called the "building blocks of life".
This work explores Cells. Using vitrigraph and murrine techniques, I melt glass to produce stringers and canes of various colours and thicknesses. I slice these canes to create murrine and encapsulate them using various kiln firing temperatures to replicate the fragility while also maintaining a 3-D aspect to each piece. The completed pieces appear as a free floating cell.
