About me
I have been exploring various glass techniques since 1992. These include cold work - sandblasting and etching, moving on to and including hot glass kiln forming techniques. I like to create intricate Architectural Glass pieces both Wall mounted and Sculptural.
I gained a BA (Hons) in Architectural Glass in 1996 and have since then continued to explore the inherent beautiful qualities that Float glass and more recently Spectrum glass can encompass.
My pieces have been described as ethereal creating a feeling of calm and have been recognised for their ability to reflect and refract light. I love glass and the purity it can possess and I strive through endless experimenting to create the most beautiful light capturing/textural pieces.
My current body of work explores the microscopic, in particular the Cell (from Latin cella, meaning "small room”) and more recently Diatoms.
Cells are the basic structural, functional and biological unit of all known living organisms. Cells are the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently and are often called the "building blocks of life”.
I create my pieces using both vitrigraph and murrine techniques, whereby I melt glass to produce stringers and canes of various colours and thicknesses. I then slice these canes to create murrine and encapsulate them using various firing temperatures to replicate the fragility of cell formations. Pieces appear as free- floating cells.
I relocated from Dublin, Ireland to Adelaide, South Australia in 2012.
